Cam & Jay is an emerging duo from Quebec’s folk and bluegrass scene. The project was born from a genuine musical spark during their first collaboration in 2024, when violinist and composer Camille Brousseau invited guitarist and mandolinist Jérémie Groleau to take part in her solo project Late for Work. Recognizing a strong artistic chemistry and shared musical affinities, Cam and Jay decided to explore their common language in a duo format — a setting that allows them to fully showcase the richness of their instruments.
A versatile and curious musician, Cam is classically and jazz trained, but now focuses mainly on folk and bluegrass. Jay, passionate about bluegrass and fingerstyle guitar, was named Instrumentalist of the Year at the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Awards for his album Uphill. Also trained as a composer, he has developed a distinctive playing style inspired in part by Jerry Reed. Together, they blend the world of fiddle tunes and bluegrass with fingerstyle guitar, creating a unique sound built on a solid musical connection.
The duo is driven by a shared desire to return to the essence of playing together: an authentic dialogue, musical intimacy, and the exploration of simple yet expressive textures. This stripped-down approach allows them to cultivate deep listening and great flexibility, whether performing in intimate venues, festivals, or alternative spaces.
Rooted in the collaborative spirit of bluegrass, Cam & Jay place a strong emphasis on connection and sharing. They regularly produce musical video capsules filmed in meaningful locations, offering audiences a window into their creative process. Their project is minimalist and organic, while remaining open to occasional collaborations — in creation, residencies, or live performance.
Alongside the development of their first original repertoire, the duo is multiplying initiatives to define and share their unique sound: warm, vibrant, and at the crossroads of fingerstyle guitar, folk, and bluegrass, marked by nuanced instrumental virtuosity and palpable chemistry.
