BIO

Late for Work (Camille Brousseau) is a fiddler based in Montreal, QC. Her debut album explores her fascination with folk and bluegrass, featuring collaborations with some of Quebec and Canada’s most active and versatile musicians, including Joe Grass, François Jalbert, Alain Lafrance, and Cédric Thuya Boivin. The album highlights the communal spirit of folk, with guest performances by Roxane Reddy, Louis-Solem Pérot, Kieran Poile and Jérémie Groleau.

The album blends both the influences that Camille acquired through her academic background and her fascination for folk and bluegrass music. During her undergraduate studies, Camille pursued jazz performance and composition. This period shaped her musical voice through improvisation, harmonic curiosity, and a constant desire to keep improving.

During her studies, Camille experienced burnout and a playing-related injury that forced her to step back from performance. What first felt like an imposed pause gradually became a chosen process: slowing down, listening differently, and rebuilding her relationship with music from a more grounded place.

Late for Work playfully reflects this in-between space : between momentum and rest, ambition and care. The album explores both the drive to keep moving forward and the quieter work of recovery, patience, and inner listening.

Across the record, contemplative textures highlight the natural resonance of fiddle, mandolin, banjo, double bass, guitar, cello and voice. Some pieces are carefully written and arranged, reflecting Camille’s love of composition, while others remain more open, leaving space for collective improvisation and for each musician to inhabit the music in their own way.

Under her own name, Camille Brousseau works as a freelance musician, contributing as a violinist, composer, and arranger to a wide range of creative projects. Recently, she’s been working on a new duo project with Jérémie Groleau that highlights the blend of fingerstyle guitar and fiddle tunes. She is also a member of the Greenhouse Ensemble, the collective that introduced her to the national and international jazz scene and fostered lasting camaraderie with its six other members.
